The New York Islanders didn’t take long to bring back stud defensive prospect Devon Toews back to the roster. Now the question is: why?
Last season the New York Islanders seemingly had two stud defensemen stock away in Bridgeport. Both Devon Toews and Ryan Pulock were putting up big numbers.
Between the two they had 91 points and were ranked number two and three on the Sound Tigers scoring leaders.
But even when camp opened this season there were no questions that Devon Toews would return to the Sound Tigers for another season, and Ryan Pulock would be given a shot in the NHL. And that’s exactly what happened. Until today, September 30th.
When Devon Toews was called back to the New York Islanders from Bridgeport.

What Does it Mean?
At this point, it’s anyone’s guess. But the first thought is that Ryan Pulock has some competition for his spot on the roster. It’s not a terrible though. In fact, it’s pretty straightforward when you think about it.
Both are similar players and would fill similar roles on the team. Both seem to be at similar places in their careers, Pulock being a few years older.
But according to Brian Compton, this has nothing to do with Pulock. Which leads to more questions.
Maybe not questions plural, but question, singular. Who’s hurt? Because that’s all that this could mean. That one of the Isles preferred defensive options is hurt and they need to fill the spot on the roster.

The New York Islanders already have eight defensemen on the roster, so it’s not like they needed to make up numbers. This has to be injury related if not Pulock related. Unless maybe it’s to send down another D. Like Adam Pelech or Scott Mayfield. Or maybe a trade is in order. Keep your peepers peeled.
