The New York Islanders did it, they’ve won five games in a row. Better yet Brock Nelson is scoring in November. Everything is great for the Isles.

It was the New York Islanders fifth game in a row against a Metropolitan Division rival. They were 4-0-0 before puck drop, with the New Jersey Devils going 1-3-1 the timing was right for a fifth win.

The Isles have been routinely out shot, seemingly out played, but still they’ve come out on top to sit just below the Pittsburgh Penguins at the top of the division thanks to a tiebreaker.

The goalies continue to be top notch with a shutout from Thomas Greiss and with some scoring from their top six the Isles just can’t be stopped.

Period one

It started about as terribly as you can imagine. Two penalties within the first three minutes of the game for the Islanders. Top line offensive players like Anders Lee didn’t touch the ice till the five minute mark of the game.

Thankfully though, the Islanders would kill off both penalties and shortly go on a power play of their own. It didn’t take long for Jordan Eberle to score his third goal in three games.

Period Two

The biggest highlight of the second period belong to Thomas Greiss. It seems like either of the New York Islanders shot stoppers are making headlines.

On a 2-on-0, as in no Islanders defender between the goalie and the puck, Thomas Greiss has to do it all by himself. And he did, with a poke check.

This poke check wasn’t as dramatic as the one against the Penguins, but it was as effective. Without it the Islanders and Devils would be tied at one going into the third period. Again, Thomas Greiss is keeping the Isles in the game for the second straight game.

Period Three

For the first half of the third period the momentum was all on the New York Islanders side. They had a ton of chances, but Keith Kinkaid did his best Thomas Greiss impression by stopping all of them.

And then Brock Nelson reminded everyone that he can score goals outside of the tenth month of the year. With his seventh goal of the year Brock Nelson is still as productive now that he calendar has changed to November.

Add a Scott Mayfield empty net short-handed goal and the New York Islanders move to 8-4-1 with a fifth win in a row.
