Anthony Beauvillier has been a ghost on most night for the New York Islanders. But against the New York Rangers, Beau reminded us he’s still got it with a four point night.

You can’t beat us.”  That was the chant New York Islanders fans sang out at the Barclays Center as they ran out with a 7-5 victory over the New York Rangers.

Since moving to Brooklyn, the Rangers haven’t been able to beat the Islanders. The Isles now move to a perfect 7-0-0 record at the Barc vs. the Rangers.

A win tonight would push the Islanders above the Rangers for sole possession of second in the Metropolitan Division.

First Period

Within five minutes the New York Rangers were blowing the doors off the Islanders putting two quick goals passed Thomas Greiss. Typically that would be it for the Isles. Game over. Not under Barry Trotz.

The Islanders quickly got themselves back into the game. Four minutes later Anthony Beauvillier redirects his second goal (and second point) of the season and his first point in seven games.

Just a minute and three seconds later it was Mr. November Brock Nelson who put up his team leading ninth goal of the season. That’s was Nelson’s seventh point in seven games this November.

Fighting back after going down two early was huge for the New York Islanders. And the scoring wasn’t over.

Period Two

Beauvillier picked up his second goal of the night on a breakaway. Valtteri Filppula hit the open winger with a great heads up pass, and Beau was away. Facing Henrik Lundqvist, Beau beat the Rangers short side to give the Isles the lead.

Kevin Hayes would answer with a short handed goal just minutes later to bring everything back to level terms until the man of the night Anthony Beauvillier answered again.

Scoring his third of the night, Anthony Beauvillier redirected a Johnny Boychuk pass on the power play. Giving him his first career hat trick.

Anders Lee would add another power play goal to give the Isles their third PPG in two games and a 5-3 lead going into the third.

Period Three

The New York Rangers would start the third with Henrik Lundqvist on the bench. After letting in five goals the Rangers needed to do something to get themselves back in the game. Pulling the goalie is one of the few tools the coach has at his disposal.

At the ten minute mark the New York Islanders would extend their lead with off a great forecheck from Anthony Beauvillier.

And then the Rangers took over. The Blue Shirts fired two goals into the Islanders net four minutes apart to cut the Islanders lead to just one with little time left in regulation.

Thankfully, Cal Clutterbuck would add an empty net goal to make it 7-5 and seal the victory to push the Islanders two points clear of the Rangers in the standings.

It wasn’t pretty defensively. The Rangers still managed to score five on the Isles. But thanks to an Anthony Beauvillier clinic the Isles took the two points.

Three Stars

1. Anthony Beauvillier: 3 goals, 1 assists

God it feels great to have Anthony Beauvillier scoring again. The former first-round pick not only gets a hat-trick but an assist to put his points total on the season from one to five.

2. Valterri Filppula: 3 assists

The third liner added three points to his total this year. That brings him to 12 points in 17 games on the season. What a story for the 34-year-old.

3. Brock Nelson: 2 assists

Obligatory tire pump for Brock Nelson. The two points puts him at eight in seven games this November. Beautiful.
