After polling various Staff Writers, NHL.com came to the conclusion that New York Islanders Head Coach, Barry Trotz, is the favorite for the Jack Adams.

What Barry Trotz did with the New York Islanders this year is one of the more impressive things an NHL coach has done in quite some time. As a result, NHL.com polled their writers and found that Barry Trotz is the favorite for the Jack Adams.

This award is given to the best coach of the year. It really comes as no surprise that the Islanders bench boss was the favorite for this award.

Just over nine months ago, the New York Islanders lost their captain in free agency. They entered the 2018-2019 season with very little expectations and have exceeded any and all reasonable expectations.

After allowing the most goals in the league last year Barry Trotz said he would clean up their defense. Well, the Islanders went from worst to first in that category allowing just 196 goals this year for the fewest in the league.

Additionally, the Isles goalies have gone from worst in the league to best in the league in just one year. Robin Lehner and Thomas Greiss are both top-five in save percentage and could be fine starters come playoff time.

Brock Nelson’s emergence as a 50 point player is also noteworthy from Barry Trotz. Finishing with 103 points seemed like a pipe dream before the season started. Now, it’s a reality and the Isles have home-ice advantage to boot.

The 2012-13 NHL season will be remembered as the year of the lockout, where 34 regular season games were sacrificed as millionaires argued with billionaires over their share of the NHL pie. For the New York Islanders, it was the start of two playoff berths in three seasons.
