The New York Islanders have a chance to sweep the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight. They are now the team with the second-best odds to win it all.

For the entire season, the New York Islanders were overlooked. Nobody thought they would be a playoff team, nobody thought they would be up 3-0 on the Islanders and certainly, no one saw them as a contender. That’s all changed.

According to BetOnline, the Islanders have the second-best odds to win the Stanley Cup behind only the defending champion Washington Capitals. The Caps are at 5/1 while the Isles are at 7/1.

The Isles are now one of the favorites for the Stanley Cup Final. What a world that we live in. The Islanders are just so different from the other teams on this list. The Capitals, Flames, and Blues all have players with over 75 points.

The only really comparable team is the Vegas Golden Knights. They too don’t score a ton, Marchessault leads the team with 59 points, everyone else is playing a more offensive brand of hockey.

The things that Barry Trotz and Lou Lamoriello have done for this team is truly remarkable, and finally, someone (the Vegas Sportsbooks) are realizing how good this team truly is. While I’m confident in the Islanders, I’m not sure I’m ready to say they are the team next likely behind the Caps to win.

I’d prefer to just take it one game at a time and enjoy whatever happens. No matter when this ride ends this year is a complete success for the Islanders. It’s just worth mentioning that Vegas, who is usually very good with setting odds, is buying in.
