New York Islanders: Players Weekend Concept Jersey Is Fantastic

KP8 Design came up with a players weekend jersey design for every NHL Team. The New York Islanders jersey is a fantastic look.

Last year, the New York Islanders brought back an alternate jersey into the rotation. It’s an okay look. The blue is slightly different with just the NY crest in the middle, white shoulder pads, and orange numbers.

It’s the best alternate jerseys they’ve had since they brought back the “original” jerseys as the alternate but it isn’t the best that they could come with.

Actually, KP8 Design came up with concepts for all 31 teams in the league and the Islanders one looks fantastic.

The idea behind it was inspired by MLB’s players weekend where each team gets a special jersey and nicknames could be stitched onto the back instead of last names. It’s fun and it creates more jerseys to sell each year.

There is not a single jersey on there that I don’t like. All 31 jersey concepts are absolutely tremendous. You can check out all 31 right here.

The Islanders one is just so crisp with the white base. It’s simple, yet a nice look that changes things up slightly from what we are used to seeing. As you can tell, the concept uses Mathew Barzal’s nickname “Barzy” on the back.

Now that we got a look at the jersey what about the nicknames for everyone else on the team? Here are my predictions for what they would be:

Josh Bailey: Bails

Anthony Beauvillier: Beau

Johnny Boychuk: Johnny Rocket

Casey Cizikas: Zeeker

Cal Clutterbuck: Clutter

Michael Dal Colle: MDC

Jordan Eberle: Eb’s

Thomer Greiss: Greisser

Thomas Hickey: Hicks

Leo Komarov: Uncle Leo

Tom Kuhnhackl: Kuhny (I really struggled coming up for one)

Andrew Ladd: Laddy Daddy

Nick Leddy: Ledpipe

Anders Lee: El Capitan

Matt Martin: Matty Marts

Scott Mayfield: Scotty (lame but I couldn’t think of anything else)

Brock Nelson: Brock N Roll

Adam Pelech: Peley

Devon Toews: Toewsy

Semyon Varlamov: Varly
