The New York Islanders head coach, Barry Trotz doesn’t care what you think. He is confident in his hockey club in 2019-2020.

We’re a little over a year from Barry Trotz being introduced into our lives as New York Islanders fans. The more times that Barry Trotz opens his mouth the more I am happy that he is the Islanders bench boss.

Genuinely, I don’t think there’s another coach in the league that I would rather have run the show. In the last 15 NHL seasons, he’s missed the playoffs just three times. Sure, some of that has to do with the talent around him, but you couldn’t make the case for that last year.

The 2018-2019 roster was barren without John Tavares last year, everyone including Islanders fans thought it would be a dumpster fire of a season from the Isles. It wasn’t.

The team shocked the hockey world and made the playoffs in 2019. Now, a year later with a near-identical roster the analysts don’t think much of the Isles playoff hopes.

Barry had some choice words for those who doubt the Islanders.

"“You know what? They said that last year, and we did OK,” coach Barry Trotz said at the Islanders Children Foundation Golf Outing at Bethpage State Park on Tuesday. “I’m not too worried. The one thing you learn is that everybody’s an expert when they’re not in the fight. Everybody has an opinion, and they’re not really worth anything, they’re just opinions. [It’s] like me having an opinion on Wall Street; I don’t have any expertise there."

Is Barry an Eyes on Isles reader? In all seriousness, I agree with Trotz here. The amount of disrespect to the Islanders in the predictions has been crazy in the offseason.

Twice in the past week, the Isles have been projected to finish 6th in the Metropolitan. After a 103 point season, I think it’s pretty fair for Trotz to be critical of the rhetoric that’s been blasted around the internet about this team.

Yes, this team isn’t a Stanley Cup contender on paper, but they should absolutely finish in the high 90’s in points and be in a playoff spot this year.

In Trotz we trust right? How about coach proves the league wrong a second year in a row, I could go for some positivity around here.
