New York Islanders hockey was back on our TV screens and it was fantastic. Just like everyone predicted, Luca Sbisa had the game-winning goal in this one.

Last year, the New York Islanders brought in Luca Sbisa as a depth move. He only played nine games with the club, with one assist and an average ice time under 15:30. Sbisa was the quintessential veteran healthy scratch.

His best year in the league came as a 22-year-old when he had 24 points in 2011-2012 with the Anaheim Ducks. He spent one year with the Vegas Golden Knights, where he played just 30 games, and then stopped on Long Island as a 29 year old last year.

Now, he’s back on a PTO and he’s already made an impact in training camp. He scored the game-winning goal in the first preseason game.

That’s right, we live in a world where Luca Sbisa is scoring game-winning goals for the New York Islanders and I’m not too sure how I feel about it.

As the Isles are currently constructed, they don’t have much room for the Luca Sbisa’s of the world. With Noah Dobson in the mix, they could already be carrying eight defensemen with Leddy, Boychuk, Pulock, Pelech, Hickey, Mayfield, Toews, and Dobson. At that point, there’s no way Sbisa sticks around.

Don’t panic, he won’t take a roster spot away from one of those guys. If anything he will stick around on a PTO a la 2018-2019 Dennis Seidenberg.

Hockey is back, and Sbisa is scoring game-winning goals for the Islanders. Gotta love it!
