The Eyes on Isles Podcast returns for episode number 114 as Matt and Mitch will discuss all things New York Islanders on and off the ice.

It’s been a quiet week for the New York Islanders. They’ve been off since Saturday, and don’t play again until tomorrow night. There have been two games since we last spoke, and the Isles are 2-0 over that time.

We’ll start by quickly talking about our biggest takeaways from these games, and plug our Patreon page where you can get all of our postgame content.

One thing we want to get more into is the power play. The team has only had 12 power play opportunities this year but they have capitalized scoring on a third of their chances so far this year. Why is 2019-2020 different with essentially the same roster?

The Isles are kind of hamstrung (no pun intended) by injuries right now. Andrew Ladd, Jordan Eberle, Casey Cizikas, Leo Komarov, and Tom Kuhnhackl are all out at the moment. When these guys return who leaves the lineup and how much longer until we see these guys back in the mix.

We wanted to look at the Islanders start to the season and compare it to last year’s team. They are still terrible at team shot rates but they are winning games, similar to last year.

Here’s what to expect from episode 114:

Topics

Games

Recapping the Islanders last two games against Winnipeg and Columbus.

Power Play

The Islanders are a top-three power play team. Can that last and why is that the case through eight games this season?

Injury/Illness update

Ladd, Eberle, Cizikas, Komarov, and Kuhnhackl are all right now. When do they come back and what does the lineup look like when they are good to go?

Similarities and differences

What looks the same and different from last year’s squad vs this year’s team.

Quiz

Mitch will pick someone from the 2014 draft class to quiz me on. It usually goes not so great for me.

Social

In the social segment, we’ll answer questions and talk about the biggest stuff from Isles Twitter this past week.
