The Islanders will hope to bounce back to winning ways after dropping their first loss in eleven games. Standing in their way are the Florida Panthers.

“It’s not going to be a trend.” Those were Barry Trotz’s words after the Islanders 4-3 OT loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Two days after the loss, the first in eleven games, the Isles get to prove that their coach’s words were true.

They welcome the Florida Panthers and Joel Quenneville to the Barclays Center for an afternoon game.

The Panthers have always had the potential to be good. With players like Aaron Ekblad, Vincent Troceck, and Jonathan Huberdeau, the Panthers had the quality on the roster to be a good team. But with a single playoff appearance in the last seven years, it’s clear they were missing something.

Coaching.

They never had a top-quality coach before. And in the offseason, the Panthers took care of that by hiring three-time Stanley Cup winner and the second-winningest coach in NHL history Joel Quenneville.

It’s going to be a classic coaching battle as the Islanders try to get back to winning way.

Betting Odds

Courtesy of The Action Network, the Islanders a -115 favorite to win this game. As the home team, and considering the two team’s records, it’s not a huge surprise that the Islanders are the slight favorite in this matchup.

Who knows what the lineup is going to like against Florida. Jordan Eberle, Leo Komarov, and Nick Leddy all practiced with the team the day before the games. Barry Trotz was coy about any of them playing:

"“You might see them in warmups and we’ll go from there.”"

Otto Koivula was called up again so if the Islanders can use him if they need him. Again, who knows what the Isles are going to look like against the Panthers. It could be much of the same from or something completely different.
