Tonight when the New York Islanders take on the Pittsburgh Penguins, Casey Cizikas will play his 500th game with the Islanders.

In the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Draft, the New York Islanders landed Casey Cizikas out of the OHL. After two more years in junior hockey, Cizikas joined the Sound Tigers in 2011-2012 and immediately burst onto the scene.

In 52 games, he had 45 points (15 goals, 30 assists). His production yielded him a 15 game call up where he had four assists to his name. Next year, 2012-2013, Cizikas would come up and stay up with the Islanders.

In 45 games, Cizikas had 15 points (6 goals, 9 assists) a pace of 27 points over a full season. The then 21-year-old carved out a rather nice role with the New York Islanders. By the 2014-2015 season, he was with Cal Clutterbuck and Matt Martin which formed the best fourth line in hockey.

Cizikas put up back to back 20 plus point seasons in 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 before dipping to just 17 in 64 games played in 2017-2018. Still, Cizikas was one of the more important role players on this team as the fourth line center who did just about everything.

Last year, Cizikas exploded offensively. He had 33 points and netted 20 goals for the first time in his career, his previous high was nine, as the Martin – Cizikas – Clutterbuck line reunited for the first time since 2016.

Tonight, Casey gets set to play his 500th career NHL game, all with the Islanders. He’s been one of the most important Islanders in his nine-year tenure with the club and he’s without question, the best fourth line center in the game.

Congrats to Cizikas on 500 games, and hopefully he gets another contract with the Islanders to make it another 500 games.
