The New York Islanders sens Sebastian Aho down yesterday, it seems like it was a move used to get him some reps in the AHL.
Do the Islanders know they’re allowed to have 23 guys on the roster? That’s what I found myself thinking when I first heard the news that Sebastian Aho was heading back to the AHL after playing zero games with the Isles.
After stopping to think for a second, it actually makes a lot of sense why Aho is AHL bound this weekend. The Sound Tigers have three games this weekend, while the Isles have just one game on Saturday.
Aho, who was called up after the Adam Pelech injury, has yet to play in a game with the Islanders. Operating under the assumption that Barry Trotz keeps the same lineup on Saturday against Boston, it’ll be yet another healthy scratch for Aho.
Instead of having him in the press box eating popcorn, the Isles elected to send him back to the A, in order to get some more playing time. Logically, it makes sense since Aho is waivers exempt there’s no risk at all.
In 34 games with the Sound Tigers this year, the 23-year-old has 20 points (2 goals, 18 assists). One can assume that he’ll get called back up after the weekend.
Isles Tweet of the Day
