New York Islanders prospect, Otto Koivula netter three goals in the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 6-4 win on Sunday evening.

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers were in action on Sunday evening and they had an offensive output from two Islanders prospects in particular. Otto Koivula had his first career hat trick while Keiffer Bellows picked up a goal and two assists.

Koivula, who had a brief stint earlier with the Islanders now has six goals on the season after yesterday’s three-goal day. While with the Islanders, Koivula averaged just 7:21 of ice time in his six-game stint.

Now, with the Isles struggles on the third line you wonder if Koivula getting called up could potentially help with that. He would need more than seven minutes but with 16 points in 24 games in the AHL, he’s shown that there’s some upside there.

As for Bellows he just continues to chip away at his tough start. Now, Bellows has 21 points (15 goals, 6 assists) in 39 games. While the Isles still continue to lack offense you can’t help but wonder if he will get a call-up.

While a trade is still the preferred route, for obvious reasons, this free move of calling Bellows up literally hurts no one. If it doesn’t work out you just send him back down as he’s waiver exempt and the Isles have open roster spaces.

Are the New York Islanders just bad at drawing penalties or is there some underlying bias here when it comes to this team and the refs?
