For the fifth time in his career, Brock Nelson has 20 goals for the New York Islanders as one of the more consistent figures on the team over that time.

Brock Nelson and consistency used to go together like oil and water. He was consistently inconsistent for the New York Islanders early in his career but when Barry Trotz came in the light went on.

Brock had a career-high of 53 points in year one while putting up 25 goals. He was rewarded with a nice contract extension keeping him on Long Island for an additional six-years.

If you told me just a couple of years ago that the Isles would get Brock Nelson to sign for a $6 million cap hit and it would end up being a good deal I would’ve thought you were crazy. Yet, here we are with Brock Nelson hitting the 20 goal plateau just 49 games into the season.

Nelson has 38 points (20 goals, 18 assists) which has him on a pace for 64 points and 33 goals, both would be a career-high.

Ironically, through all the inconsistency was a 20 goal a year man. In five out of the last six years, Brock Nelson has hit the 20 goal plateau (last night he clinched it in just the 49th game). The one year he didn’t hit it during that stretch was a 19 point season in 2017-2018.

Isn’t it ironic that Nelson’s worst year offensively was with Doug Weight while his best offensive years have been under Barry Trotz?
