As the NHL All-Star game approaches, let’s take a look at where the New York Islanders stand in terms of their playoff chances.

It’s no secret, the playoffs the Eastern Conference is a dog fight due to the log jam of teams in the Metropolitan who are competitive. As of today, the Islanders are in third place in the Metro with three other teams on their tail.

Columbus, Carolina, and Philadelphia are all within three points of the Islanders. Three points Is the difference between third place and being out of the playoffs.

If you take the average of MoneyPuck, HockeyViz, and The Athletic the Islanders have a 77.33 percent chance of playing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season.

While they are still more likely to make the playoffs than the three teams listed below them it’s not a sure thing. Carolina comes in at a 69 percent, Columbus at 61, and Philly at 56. Yes, clearly the Islanders have a better chance than the teams chancing them but it’s no cakewalk.

Carolina and Philly have elite talent, which makes them dangerous. While Columbus has 2018-2019 Islanders vibes.

Regardless, the point is that at the All-Star break it is no lock that the Isles are playoff-bound. They have to get their act together coming into February.
