With the game on the line, Mathew Barzal does the unthinkable by scoring a between the legs goal late in the third period to force overtime.

After dominating the game for large portions, the New York Islanders found themselves down 3-2 to the Dallas Stars in the final minutes. With a power-play coming at 14:11 gone in the third the Isles needed to convert to push the game to overtime.

The only problem was they were 0-for-4 so far in the game. There was little hope they could convert. But when the Islanders needed him most, Mathew Barzal stepped up big for his club.

With a

Devon Toews

point shot coming off the boards, Barzal does the unthinkable to tie it up.

Between the Legs

As Toews’s slapshot is coming off the boards, Barzal gets his stick between his legs and redirects the puck into the “Toy Department” for the game-tieing goal. Watch it, it’s incredible.

Where does Mathew Barzal’s skill level end? Just when you thought you knew everything about Mather Barzal, you learn something new.

He had so little time to think this through. Meaning this was a natural attempt from Barzal. Who in their right mind naturally thinks: “I’ll just go between my legs”? Elite level players only.

With the Islanders just a point clear in the second wild-card they needed to win this game. A loss combined with a Carolina win would have the Islanders outside of the playoffs for the first time in a long time. So much for that 17-game point streak, right?

Mathew Barzal wanted none of it with this between the legs power-play goal to give the Isles at least a point by forcing overtime.

Anthony Beauvillier would seal the deal with an overtime goal to give the Isles both points. Something that wouldn’t be possible without that incredible goal from Barzal.
