In the Islanders’ last five games, Michael Dal Colle has points in four of them. Is he finally turning this thing around?
To say Michael Dal Colle’s career has gotten off to a slow start with the New York Islanders would be an understatement. The former top-five pick has just 17 points in 70 career games in the NHL as we approach year six since he was drafted.
While Dal Colle will never reach the potential everyone thought he would way back in 2014 there is still hope that he can be a competent third-line player. Over the last few games, he has definitely shown that ability.
Over the last five games, he has four points including two goals. Dal Colle went 18 games between goals one and two this year so to see goals three and four on the season be separated by just two games is a major plus.
The entire third line, in general, has looked miles better with the addition of Kieffer Bellows. Both Dal Colle and center Derrick Brassard are reaping the benefits of the Bellows call up.
This would be huge for the Islanders if they can sustain a competent third line with Dal Colle – Brassard – Bellows. It’s been a black hole all year and one of the Isles biggest weaknesses.
I’ve been hard on Dal Colle but he deserves to have his tires pumped. He’s played well over the last five to 10 games.
