Isles on MSG started posting clips of New York Islanders highlights with a split-screen of Brendan Burke and Butch Goring and it’s perfect.

Admittedly, we’re a little biased but the Islanders broadcasts on MSG are genuinely some of the best in the city. We’re lucky to have so many great broadcasters of sports teams in this city and I would put the Islanders crew up there with any of them.

Brendan Burke, who is now in his fourth year calling games for the Islanders, is a pro’s pro. He has a great voice and has a knack for knowing when to let the moment breathe for itself with a quiet moment.

It’s a rare skill set, but he is one of the best young broadcasters in the business that much is a given. Then you have Butch Goring as the ex-player who provides insight and sometimes comic relief to the broadcast.

You have the “toy department”, “chip and chase” and hundreds of other Butchie sayings. He’s a lovable figure from the Islanders glory days and his personality fits well with Brendan.

It doesn’t stop there, Shannon Hogan is now in her sixth year doing the Islanders pregame and postgame show. It’s clear that she is a special talent, her humor and personality easily come through the broadcast any time she’s on camera which is my favorite part about watching her.

You also have a rotation of AJ Mleczko and Jen Botterill who are on with Shannon as analysts. As former players, they always provide interesting insight and have really developed their on-camera personalities.

The point, the Islanders have a really good product on MSG but it just got even better (on social media at least).

@IslesMSGN started posting clips from the games with a camera on Brendan Burke and Butch Goring as they make calls. I’m a bit of a broadcasting nerd so I love the behind the scenes looks but according to the hundreds of thousands of views these videos received I’m not the only one.

The smiles and reactions from Brendan and Butch are everything. It’s such a pure reaction to the big moment for Kieffer Bellows and Butchie pointing to the ice as if to say to Brendan hey look at that is laugh out loud funny.

They aren’t the first network to do this, in fact, the Mets started posting these clips as well and they were a huge hit too.

This just shows the announcers which is cool to see the reaction of the moment, but adding in the split-screen with watching the play and their call side by side is just perfect. Cudos to MSG for figuring that one out.

Can we get a picture in picture with that cam always live? I’m not saying for every game but maybe one time? I need all the Brendan and Butchie content that I can get.
