After being traded to the Islanders, JG Pageau decided to extend with them citing the team’s ability to compete as a reason for extending.

It was a busy trade deadline for the New York Islanders, something that doesn’t happen all too often in their team’s recent history. Lou Lamoriello acquired arguably the best forward available in JG Pageau for three draft picks.

Draft picks are hard to lose sleep over when the Islanders have been hoarding picks and prospects almost every year minus the attaching of a first-round pick in the Expansion Draft in 2017.

Besides acquiring a really good center, we learned something about the Isles yesterday. Players want to come here. In Pageau’s conference call he was quoted saying how the Islanders’ ability to compete is so exciting.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join a team that’s going to be competing every year for playoffs or for a championship.”

This is a real thing that was said about the Isles yesterday. They also got Zach Parise to waive his No Move Clause in order to be traded to the Island. Parise wanted to come here, it wasn’t a case of being traded and just accepted it, he actively wanted to be moved to the Islanders.

Hats off to ownership for actually changing the culture. Organizations can preach culture change all they want but actions speak louder than words. Stanley Cup-winning General Manager, Stanley Cup-winning coach, new arena on the way. Long Island is finally a destination.

Editorials: Islanders trade deadline grade

The 2020 trade deadline was quite the opposite than was expected from the New York Islanders. This year was best described as “crazy town” for the Islanders.
