Islanders Podcast Preview: Pageau Trade Reaction & Sorokin Chaos
By Matt O'Leary
The Eyes on Isles Podcast returns for episode number 132 as Matt and Mitch will discuss all things New York Islanders on and off the ice.
It was a crazy week in New York Islanders land and we got you covered on things we have to discuss. Since the last time we talked the Isles have a 2-0-1 record and played arguably the best period of the season in their overtime loss last night.
They’ve looked miles better on the ice and their post-deadline play looked very solid in the obviously limited sample size. That’ll bring us into the big story of the week, the trade deadline.
The Islanders acquired JG Pageau which was a huge move for this team and then, of course, the drama involving Zach Parise. We’ll discuss why we’re a big fan of the Pageau deal and while even though the Parise deal flopped it’s a good sign for the Isles.
Additionally, there was a rumor involving Ilya Sorokin. It appeared he was traded to Chicago and then that was quickly backtracked.
Lastly, what’s happening with Andrew Ladd? He’s up, he’s down, he’s back up will he ever play again for this team?
Here’s what you can expect from episode 132:
The Islanders are 2-0-1 since we last spoke and are now in the top Wild Card spot and just three points behind Pittsburgh for second place in the division.
Just a pure reaction from Mitch and me on the day that was deadline Monday.
Ilya Sorokin drama
It appeared like the Islanders were sending Ilya Sorokin to Chicago for about 15 minutes. Luckily we had Igor Eronko settle this one for us reducing our panic.
What the heck is going on with Andrew Ladd. Is he going to play for this team or not?
Mitch is going to quiz me on someone who played 30 games as an Islander. As you’d expect it usually doesn’t go very well.
In the social segment, we’ll answer questions and talk about the biggest stuff from Isles Twitter this past week.
