New York Islanders prospect and former first-round pick, Kieffer Bellows has continued his hot streak down in the AHL. Will he get called back up?
It’s been a struggle for the New York Islanders in recent weeks. They are winless in their last seven games and their playoff hopes are in real jeopardy with the free fall in the standings after their tremendous start to the season.
While the Islanders had the night off last night, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers were in action taking on the Toronto Marlies. Bridgeport has struggled immensely this season but they have recently been sparked by Kieffer Bellows.
After a slow start, Bellows has caught fire and has 22 goals in 52 games for Bridgeport including a two-goal performance last night.
The first goal was Bellows putting himself into good scoring position. He went to the front of the net and was able to get a stick on Oliver Wahlstrom’s pass to deflect it in giving the Sound Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Just a couple minutes later it was Bellows again, this time short-handed. Two goals in two totally different ways. In his last 33 games at the AHL level, he has 21 goals, which in my mind is enough for a promotion.
A lineup of: Lee – Barzal – Eberle, Beau – Nelson – Bailey, Bellows – Pageau – Ladd, Martin – Komarov – Clutterbuck is a little more appealing especially when Casey Cizikas gets swapped in for Komarov on line four.
