With the New York Islanders season on hold, for the time being, we asked fans if they’ve figured out what they’ll do during game days.

The NHL is on hiatus for the time being, leaving New York Islanders fans scrambling for things to do while they wait for hockey to return.

Look it isn’t easy. Who knows how long the NHL will be gone. It could be weeks it could be months. Trying to entertain ourselves when we’d normally have the NHL to distract us isn’t easy. And it’s not just the NHL that isn’t around.

The NBA was the first to suspend their season. March Madness is canceled. Major League Baseball delayed opening day by two weeks. Heck, even The Masters has been canceled for fear of the Coronavirus. So I asked Islanders

fans over Twitter what there were going to do

without the Islanders hockey?

Video Games

The most popular answer was playing video games. NHL 20 was perhaps the most popular game that was named. Islanders fans just can’t get enough of hockey. I get it, I can’t get enough of hockey either. I still flip on my PS4 and play NHL19 when the Isles aren’t on TV.

With hockey and by extension the Islanders gone for the time being playing NHL 20 is perhaps the best coping mechanism possible.

Tonight, the Islanders were supposed to be in Edmonton to play the Oilers. But with the suspension of the season, that, obviously, isn’t happening. So the Edmonton Oilers sub-Reddit will be simulating the game using NHL 20 tonight and stream it over Twitch.

You can find information about the Twitch stream here.

Self-Improvement

This was my favorite answer because I’ve been doing the same. I’m taking the time to brush up on some of my Russian that I hadn’t done since my time at University.

I’m still very rusty, but some of the vocabulary is already starting to come back. I can only imagine how my skills will have improved by the time the Isles get back on the ice.

Reminiscing

The last time we saw the New York Islanders, they had lost their seventh game in a row. What better way to spend the time as we wait for them to get back then by watching some of their greatest games ever?
