Islanders Ilya Sorokin To Talk To Russian Hero On Instagram Live

New York Islanders goalie, Ilya Sorokin, will be speaking with Anton Shkaplerov, a Russian Astronaut about his adventures in space.

In roughly 13 hours from when this article is going to be posted, New York Islanders goalie, Ilya Sorokin will be speaking on Instagram Live with Anton Shkaplerov. Who is Shkaplerov you might ask?

It would probably be fair to assume that he’s a player in the KHL, a coach, maybe just anyone that has to do with the sport of hockey, right?

Well, you’d assume wrong. Shkaplerov is an Astronaut. That’s right, on Instagram live, Sorokin will be discussing aviation, fighter jets, and the Swifts aerobatic team (basically the Russian version of the Blue Angels).

The promo image is just fantastic. It’s a goalie, and an astronaut, two seemingly very different occupations plastered on the same promotional post on Twitter. At first, I thought, this has to be a mistake. They got the wrong Sorokin!

But it comes from CSKA Moscow’s official twitter feed. I simply just don’t get why Ilya Sorokin is interviewing this man. Unless I’m missing something, does Sorokin have some kind of love of space that I just don’t remember?

I mean this dude Anton Shkaplerov sounds awesome. In 2014, he spent over 195 days in space, and he’s the former Commander of the International Space Station. What does the Commander of the ISS do? I don’t have the slightest clue but it sounds awesome.

So if you want to wake up at 5:00 am to watch Sorokin and Shkaplerov talk, presumably in Russian, that’s a thing that’s happening on IG Live tomorrow.
