The New York Islanders got a heroic goal from Jordan Eberle to extend the series in double overtime. Boy, did he need that.

Heading into Game 5, Jordan Eberle had just one goal in his last 15 games. I, along with many other Islanders fans, were critical of Eberle’s play in the playoffs and rightfully so as he continued to fire pucks wide.

Well, last night he shut a ton of us up. This was a win or go home scenario for the Isles, and they struggled all game long to get shots on net.

In regulation, they had five, six, and five shots in each period. With incredible goalie play, the Isles hung around and held their own against an extremely talented Tampa Bay Lightning team.

In 92:30, the Isles had just 24 shots on goal but it was the final shot that finally went through, and boy did Jordan Eberle need it.

First, hats off to Anders Lee for making a beautiful feed over to Jordan Eberle. The captain was excellent tonight. Then it was Mr. Eberle, the punching bag for the forwards lately, who came up with the clutch goal.

This goal was Eberle’s fifth of the playoffs as he saved the Islanders season, for now. Game 6 is Thursday night at 8:00 pm and of course, there’s more work to be done.

It’s completely okay to enjoy this one for today, but tomorrow it’s back to business. One shift, one period, one game at a time.
