After having no first-round pick and sitting quiet last night, the New York Islanders finally get to make their selection in the 2020 NHL Draft today.

Last night was a waiting game for the New York Islanders, they didn’t have a first-round pick in the draft as that pick was part of the deal that brought Jean-Gabriel Pageau to Long Island. Instead, Islanders fans watched their rivals, New York Rangers select first overall in the draft and pick Alexis Lafreniere.

Many fans thought the Islanders may make a trade to acquire another pick, but the Islanders stayed quiet all night and did not make any moves. To keep fans engaged, the Islanders official twitter account even had an “All things Fall Draft” with scouting reports and live polls.

Today is the Day

Today the Islanders finally get their chance to make their selections in the draft, but there will still be some waiting unless a trade is made. The Isles do not have a second-round pick in the draft and will be making their first selection in the third round. The Isles second-round pick of this year’s draft was also sent to Ottawa back in February in the Pageau trade.

The blue and orange have the 28th pick in rounds three through seven of the draft, which begins at 11:30 am EST. It will be extremely interesting to see if Lou Lamoriello has anything up his sleeve for the remainder of the draft and who the Isles select.
