Ilya Sorokin will make his debut for the Islanders this year as a rookie. Unfortunately, he’s been snubbed by the oddsmakers.

Just three years ago, the Islanders had their very own Calder Trophy winner. Mathew Barzal burst onto the scene with a fantastic 2017-2018 season and put up an impressive 85 point season which resulted in the rookie of the year honor.

This year, there’s a chance that they could have another repeat contender with Ilya Sorokin. At least that’s what we thought.

According to Sirius XM, Ilya Sorokin doesn’t have very good odds to win the Calder, in fact, he doesn’t have any:

As the first overall pick, Alexis Lafreniere has the best odds followed by Igor Shesterkin. Sure, Lafreniere could win it, and being that he’s the first overall pick it makes sense to have him as the favorite.

You’re telling me 22 guys have better odds than Ilya Sorokin though to win the award? I don’t buy that.

The numbers that Sorokin has put up over the last five years in the KHL are truly special. He’s averaged a .938 save percentage and a 1.38 goals against average. That’s truly unbelievable numbers from the 25-year-old.

So take that raw talent that we’ve seen on display in Russia and add with that Mitch Korn, Piero Greco, and Barry Trotz. The potential for those three goalie geniuses with Sorokin is truly endless.

Now, I’m not saying he’s a shoo-in and that I wouldn’t say I’m extremely confident in him winning the Calder but we can’t even get 50-1 odds on the kid? That seems just flat out crazy.

I might just have to go out of my way now and start the campaign for Sorokin. Not being included on this list is a slight against him and I won’t stand for it.
