The New York Islanders schedule for the 2021 season has been released and they open up the season against the Rangers.
Well, we officially have a date for Islanders hockey. On Thursday, January 14 the New York Islanders will be playing the Rangers at Madison Square Garden to open up their season. They’ll play another one at MSG before heading back to the Coliseum for their home opener on Monday, January 18.
The last time the Isles opened the season up against the Rangers was on October 13, 2016, a game the Isles lost 5-3.
These two teams will play each other eight times over a 56 game season. As we’ve learned, each team will play every team in their division eight times to make up their season. The East, where the Isles will be playing, is made up of Boston, Buffalo, New Jersey, the Islanders, the Rangers, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Washington.
Last season, the Islanders struggled against their rivals. They went 1-3 against the Rangers their first losing record since the 2013-2014 season. Since 2015, the Isles are 17-8 against Blueshirts.
The Islanders will also take on the Rangers on January 16, February 8, April 9, April 11, April 20, April, 29, and May 1. Here’s a look at the complete schedule:
Six times this year the Islanders will play on back-to-back nights throughout the entirety of the season. The season will run 17 weeks, and if you want to breakdown how many games the team will play by week it’s as followed:
Week 1: 2
Week 2: 2
Week 3: 4
Week 4: 4
Week 5: 3
Week 6: 4
Week 7: 3
Week 8: 2
Week 9: 4
Week 10: 4
Week 11: 2
Week 12: 4
Week 13: 3
Week 14: 3

That’s a lot of hockey, In not very much time. It’s going to be an intense run for the Isles, and every team in the league for that matter, but after months of nothing, it’s exciting to have hockey in our near future with a schedule all ready to go.
