The Eyes on Isles Podcast returns for episode number 177 as Matt and Mitch will discuss all things New York Islanders on and off the ice.
for the first time in 2021, Mitch and I are back to talk some New York Islanders hockey. This week there’s a lot of storylines we have to get into including Training Camp, Mathew Barzal, Matt Martin, and Mitch’s prospect report.
It’s been a week since training camp has opened and we’ve learned some things about this team, like what the pairings will be and Barry Trotz’s opinions on some of the younger guys.
Arguably the biggest storyline is Mathew Barzal. He has yet to sign as of writing this, as the season is set to open up in eight days for the team. When is it time to panic, and what is taking so long?
Then there’s the alleged Martin contract. Is it as bad as people think? We’ll dissect the decision to extend him for four years and if loyalty can go too far. Here’s what to expect for episode 177:
Topics
Training Camp/Barzal
We’ll start by getting into what we’ve learned from training camp so far and then get into Mathew Barzal and what’s up with him.
Martin contract
Four-years at a $1.5 million cap hit seems pretty high but is it that bad? We’ll discuss the decision from Lou Lamoriello.
Prospect report
Mitch will update us on the Islanders’ prospects from around the world. I’m sure there will be absolutely no mention of Team USA’s win last night from me. Absolutely none.
Quiz
Mitch is going to quiz me on someone who played 77 games in an Islanders sweater. This guessing game rarely goes well.
Social
In the social segment, we’ll answer questions and talk about the biggest stuff from Isles Twitter this past week.
