Islanders Reveal 2021 Opening Night Roster Plus Taxi Squad

The highly anticipated New York Islanders’ opening night roster has been revealed. Here’s all you need to know about the Isles roster and taxi squad.

The 2021 NHL season finally kicks off today! The NHL has five games on the ledger, but the New York Islanders will begin their season tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers.

Each franchise had to submit their opening night roster by yesterday afternoon. Some teams, including the Rangers, decided to reveal their roster last night, while other teams waited till today to announce their 23-player roster.

The New York Islanders were one of those teams that waited until today and they have just announced their roster this morning. The official announcement of the roster can be found here.

The Islanders Roster

The Islanders decided to carry 14 forwards, eight defensemen, and two goalies. That’s more than the max 23 players, but one of those 14 forwards was a late addition to the IR list.

Forwards:

Josh Bailey, Mathew Barzal, Anthony Beauvillier, Casey Cizikas, Cal Clutterbuck, Jordan Eberle, Ross Johnston, Leo Komarov, Anders Lee, Matt Martin, Brock Nelson, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Oliver Wahlstrom.

Michael Dal Colle was also named but is on IR according to the team.

Defense:

Sebastian Aho, Noah Dobson, Andy Greene, Thomas Hickey, Nick Leddy, Scott Mayfield, Adam Pelech, Ryan Pulock.

Goaltenders:

Semyon Varlamov and Illya Sorokin are the only rostered goaltenders for the Isles for their first game of 2021.

The Islanders Taxi Roster

Along with announcing their roster, the Islanders have also revealed their taxi squad to begin the season. The blue and orange taxi squad will feature three forwards and a goalie.

The four-man taxi squad will include Kieffer Bellows, Austin Czarnik, Otto Koivula, and Jakub Skarek.
