The Islanders started out their season at 3-1, since that start, they have lost five in a row and are sitting at 3-4-2 through their first nine games. It’s not the start we wanted so we’ll have to get into why they are struggling.

Mitch and I will attempt to explain how the Islanders will get out of the slump and if there are any positives we can take away from it. Speaking of positives, Mathew Barzal is producing at an insane clip right now.

He has 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) in nine games. The problem? Outside of the top-line the Isles aren’t getting much from their forwards. Oh, he also has 24 penalty minutes (his career-high is 46 which came in 2018-2019).

Lastly, Mitch will give us his farm update on how the Islanders’ prospects are doing from around the league. Here’s what you can expect from episode 181:

Topics

The losing streak

The Islanders are in one of those funks right now. One they desperately need to snap out of if they have any playoff aspirations.

Barzal

For the most part, Mathew Barzal has been very solid at the start of this season. He’s scoring out of his mind, he’s been great in the faceoff dot too, he just has taken too many penalties.

Down on the Farm

Mitch has talked to some different prospects around the world and can update us on who is doing what this week.

Quiz

Mitch is going to quiz me on someone who played 81 games in an Islanders sweater. This guessing game rarely goes well.

Social

In the social segment, we’ll answer questions and talk about the biggest stuff from Isles Twitter this past week.
