The New York Islanders fourth line hasn’t been a strength through much of the young 2021 season. But over the last few games, they’ve started to do what usually brings them so much success and it’s translated into production.

When the Islanders fourth line isn’t hassling the puck carrier or creating having in the O-Zone with relentless forechecking they aren’t typically successful. Now that they’re back to what brings them success, they’ve combined for six points in the last two games.

They’d add two more points with this incredible goal by Casey Cizikas five minutes into the contest against the Penguins.

As I said, the fourth line finds success when they harass the puck carrier and create havoc with their relentless forecheck. Both of those qualities were on full display in this single play by Cizikas who forechecking pressures John Marino into a turnover that creates the scoring chance.

But that’s not the impressive part of Cizikas’s goal. It’s how he deekes Casey DeSmith while on a single leg.

Watch how Marino recovers and tries to physically remove Cizikas off the puck. While falling, Cizikas pulls DeSmith over to the goalie’s left before pulling the puck back to the other way and into the open cage.

That’s a high skill play from a guy who doesn’t pull those out very frequently.

Cizikas now has three points in his last three games and now four points on the season. That puts him on pace for a 27 point year (over an 82 game season).

As I said, the fourth line picked up a few more points on that play. Over the last three games, the Isles fourth line now has three of the teams’ seven goals.  It should be no coincidence that the Islanders are back to winning ways now that the fourth line is back to their best.
