Since the last time we spoke, the Islanders are 3-0-1 and now sit tied for the lead in points in the Eastern Division with the Washington Capitals. Over that time, one of the biggest bright spots has been Oliver Wahlstrom’s emergence.
In the last five games, he has six points (3 goals, 3 assists). Right before our very eyes he went from passing the eye test but not being able to bury chances to a goal machine. Now, obviously, this is a limited sample but it’s hard not to be excited about his play.
What we want to talk about is if the Isles should keep him around on the third line or move him up into the top-six. His ice time would also increase if they moved him up a line or two.
Also, the Islanders power play has been a strength recently. Right now, they’re 12th in the league with a 24.6 percent efficiency which is ahead of the Colorado avalanche by just over a half percent. We’ll get into why it’s working for the Isles.
