Leo Komarov is a unique guy. The New York Islanders forward goes by the nickname Uncle Leo to Islanders fans, in reference to the loveable Seinfeld character. During his time with the Islanders, Leo’s been a little…different.
In 2018-2019 the cameras caught Leo Komarov and Anthony Beauvillier hyping themselves up pregame with a little slapping.
The slap routine with Beau is an all-time classic. But that’s only the beginning. How about Leo being fluent in four different languages as well. Or the fact that he’s actually really good on the piano too?
Well earlier today, I found another all-time Leo moment that was captured on Instagram. How about Uncle Leo riding a scooter in his Islanders helmet:
This seemingly simple video is one of the funnier Islanders videos in recent memory. Something about Leo on the back of the scooter in his hockey helmet with his friend on the front laughing is just too perfect.
As some Islanders fans have pointed out in the comments, Leo has some facial hair going on. As we know with Lou Lamoriello’s rules, Uncle Leo is going to have to shave that beard off before returning to Isles camp.
In 33 games for the Isles last season, Komarov put up eight points (1 goal, 7 assists). During the playoffs, he spent a majority of his time stapled to Mat Barzal’s wing. With Anders Lee coming back from injury that will likely change.

His future with the Islanders is up in the air as he will likely either be a scratch-pad player or be waived and sent down to the minors. Either way, just add this to the list of things that makes Leo Komarov quirky.
