Welp, there will be no hockey tonight. The New York Islanders vs New Jersey Devils matchup tonight was canceled due to a power outage at the Prudential Center. The Devils preseason is over while the Islanders have one more game remaining on Saturday.

At roughly 6:45 pm, the scoreboard went dark and some of the lighting went out. It was darker on the end of the rink that the Isles were set to defend in the first and third period.

Unfortunately, whatever the issue was they weren’t able to resolve it in a reasonable enough window for the game to be played tonight. It’s unfortunate, as the Islanders were going to get another look at Anatoly Golyshev and Erik Gustafsson.

Golyshev probably doesn’t have a shot at the roster but Gustafsson is fighting for the seventh defenseman job and has looked pretty steady so far in the preseason, especially of late.

These were the Islanders lines for warmups:

Lee-Barzal-Palmieri

Beauvillier-Nelson-Golyshev

Panik-Pageau-Wahlstrom

Johnston-Cizikas-Clutterbuck

Chara-Dobson

Gustafsson-Pulock

Greene-Mayfield

Sorokin

Schneider

So the Islanders will only play five preseason games before getting their season started on Thursday October 14. While most of the roster is figured out, it’s more about getting some reps out of the way to shake off the cobwebs.

Anders Lee has one game under his belt since the injury back in March. It would’ve been nice to get him a couple of more games under his belt before he does it for real. Nonetheless, the Islanders will host the Rangers in Bridgeport on Saturday for their finale.

Their next home game won’t be until the regular season home opener, which is on November 20 after 13 games on the road to start their season.
