Defenseman Adam Boqvist wasted no time making an impression in his first game with the New York Islanders, scoring the game-tying goal in the second period of the team's 3-2 OT win versus the Tampa Bay Lightning to help extend his new team's winning streak to seven.
Boqvist was wearing No. 34 on his new sweater but wasn't wearing new gloves. During his intermission interview, the name "Beauvillier" was visible on his gloves. Anthony Beauvillier hasn't played for the Isles in over two years, as he was traded to Vancouver in the Bo Horvat trade.
Adam Boqvist was using Anthony Beauvillier's old gloves tonight in his Isles debut (who hasn't played for New York since 2022-23) 😅

Must've been lucky since he lit the lamp

Given that he scored in his first game, Boqvist made be inclined to keep wearing the former Isles' winger's accessories. His goal came at a crucial moment, as he jumped into the play following Mathew Barzal's breakaway and fired a well-placed shot past Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy. Known for his smooth skating and puck-moving ability, the former 8th pick overall provided an instant spark to the Islanders' blue line, playing 10:39 TOI in his debut.
The Islanders claimed Boqvist off waivers from the Florida Panthers in hopes of adding more skill to their defense and giving them an option over 20-year-old rookie Isaiah George, who was sent down to Bridgeport after the transaction. While Boqvist's defensive game has always come under question, his offensive instincts and ability to move the puck will be an asset to the Isles' as they battle injuries.

“You can never have enough puck movers in the game today, but they have to be the right people to accept the role they’re coming in for,” said Islanders President and GM Lou Lamoriello. “If they happen to be available, why not?”
Head coach Patrick Roy praised Boqvist’s debut after the game, emphasizing his quick adjustment and confidence with the puck. If he continues to play at this level, he could earn a larger role in the defensive rotation. For Boqvist, this goal marks a fresh start and a chance to establish himself as a key contributor. “When I got the call that the Islanders picked me up, I was super excited,” Boqvist said. “I talked to them in the summer when I was a free agent, so knew a little bit before coming here. Everyone has been super nice and welcoming and I’m excited to get going.”
