Alexander Ovechkin will have a chance to break the NHL's all-time goal scoring record on Long Island against the New York Islanders on Sunday afternoon at UBS Arena.
Ovechkin scored twice in the Washington Capitals, winning 5-3 over the Chicago Blackhakws on Friday night, tying Wayne Gretzky, who was in attendance to watch history on a fabulous, memorable night for the game of hockey. Ovi's teammates tried desperately to get him the hat trick and the record-breaking goal, but he was denied by Chicago Blackhawk Spencer Knight multiple times in the game's final minutes. Trailing 4-3, the Blackhawks pulled Knight, but Ovechkin couldn't get on the ice, and rookie Ryan Leonard scored an empty-netter.
Ticket prices for the game at UBS Arena soared throughout the night and are likely to keep going up as Capitals fans decide to travel to Long Island for a chance to see hockey history. Meanwhile, Islanders fans with tickets are choosing between seeing a record-breaking goal against their favorite team or possibly paying for next year's season tickets.

The game on Sunday will be nationally televised on TNT at 12:30 PM. On social media, some were contemplating whether it would be best for the league and Caps fans if Ovechkin sat out on Sunday and built towards trying to score the record-breaker versus Carolina in the Caps next home game.
"I sit Ovechkin Sunday., said ESPN's John Buccigross on X. "He could use a break anyway with playoffs approaching. We can market and build the game next Thursday. Give the fans one more shot to do it at home. Then play it out as scheduled."
That would be a tough sell for Ovechkin and maybe even tougher for the fans who have already spent hundreds on tickets in recent hours. Isles fans should experience an incredible atmosphere at UBS Arena on Sunday, with NHL history only a shot away, even if it comes against the home team.
