The New York Islanders have been a mixed bag this season. On the one hand, the club has played some highly entertaining and even dominant games. On the other, they’re seeming inability to hold leads in the third period has been the team’s bane.

Despite sitting near the bottom of the Metro Division, the Islanders are still within striking range of a playoff spot. That situation is due to the tremendous separation between the top teams in the Eastern Conference and the not-so-top teams.

Plus, the debacle that has been the New York Rangers this season has also fueled the New York Islanders’ playoff hopes in spite of their lackluster at this point in the season.
