Bo Horvat to take the ice for the first time as Captain of the NY Islanders

For eight seasons, Anders Lee was the captain of the NY Islanders before departing for Utah this summer in free agency. Tonight, for the first time since the 2018-19 season, we'll see a new player wearing the 'C', as Bo Horvat will take the ice as the 16th captain in the history of the organization.

Acquired in 2023 in a blockbuster deal, Horvat has been a leader on and off the ice since the day he stepped on Long Island. No, he'll have the honor of being called captain.

"Anytime you get to wear a letter like that, it's pretty special," Horvat said, according to Stefen Rosner of The Hockey News. "Whether it's preseason or regular season, it's still a cool feeling, and I can't wait for tonight."

Today won't be the first time Horvat steps onto the ice wearing the 'C', as he served as the captain of the Vancouver Canucks from 2019 until the time he was traded in 2023.

"I am very proud and honored to be wearing this letter representing not only the New York Islanders but Long Island itself," Horvat said via his Instagram page shortly after being named captain. "There is an amazing history of leaders in this organization, and I am blessed to be part of it."

Horvat will take the ice tonight with a veteran-heavy lineup against the NY Rangers. Additionally, he'll have some young prospects alongside him, with Horvat guiding them against their bitter rivals. Next week, Horvat will take the ice as Islanders captain for the first time in a regular-season game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, not far from his hometown of London, ON.
