Bridgeport is going back to its roots (at least on Saturdays).

To celebrate their 25th anniversary, the Bridgeport Islanders, AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, are reviving their original identity by hosting 14 “Sound Tigers Saturdays” throughout the 2025-26 season. As part of this retro celebration, the team will wear Sound Tigers-themed throwback jerseys during each Saturday home game at Total Mortgage Arena.

“As we enter our 25th anniversary season, we’re incredibly proud to honor the history and tradition of professional hockey in Bridgeport,” said Joe Dolan, Senior Vice President of Business Operations. “The Sound Tigers logo represents where it all began.”

Founded in 2001 as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the club served as the AHL affiliate of the Isles before rebranding in 2021. That rebrand included a downgrade from the Sound Tigers logo to a "B" with a hockey stick and a sorta "NY" on the tape stick. That wasn't received too well, and after using their own version of the Fisherman logo as an alternate sweater, it became the team's permanent logo last season. But fans have always maintained a deep connection to the original name, colors, and identity, something the organization is embracing with this year’s throwback campaign. Full details on the special edition jerseys and anniversary events will be revealed later this summer.

Some other highlights with Thursday's schedule release include Bridgeport opening its season at home against the Providence Bruins on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. The schedule features two school-day games at 10:30 a.m. and nine weekend matchups with 5 p.m. puck drops, aiming to attract more families and younger fans. The “Battle of Connecticut” rivalry with the Hartford Wolf Pack will happen 12 times, including several marquee Sat. dates: Dec. 6, Dec. 27, Jan. 3, and Apr. 3.

With a nod to its storied past and a focus on building new memories, the 2025-26 season is shaping up to be one of Bridgeport’s most nostalgic and exciting campaigns yet.
