Current and former NY Islanders participate in the Shoulder Check Showcase

While there are still two months until the 2026-27 NHL season begins, players around the league keep sharp over the summer months, with a number of them participating in summer leagues. Tonight, stars across the league took the ice at the Shoulder Check Showcase, where NY Islanders defenseman Tony DeAngelo skated for Team Prentiss, and Matt Moulson lined up behind the bench for Team Shattenkirk.

The showcase is held to bring people together, spreading the message that small acts of kindness can go a long way.

“I think it’s a great opportunity to show people you can be there for them when they’re going through some tough times,” Moulson said on NHL Network. “Even if you’re not sure what’s going on in their lives. Just a helping hand. As athletes, we all go through some tough times, and maybe we’re scared to ask for that help we need. So it’s a great cause.”

The event was held at Martire Family Arena on the campus of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. Local to the NYC-Metro area, several players who play pro hockey in the tri-state area, aside from DeAngelo, participated, including Adam Fox, Matt Rempe, and Pavel Dorofeyev. 

Broadcast live to those in the United States on NHL Network, Team Shattenkirk and Moulson got the best of DeAngelo, winning 13-9 in the 3-on-3 challenge.

DeAngelo, after signing a two-year extension with the Islanders this summer, will be back in action on Sept. 30 when the Isles open the season against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
