David Schuman has acquired minority ownership of the NY Islanders

The NY Islanders continue to expand their ownership, as it was announced today that David Shuman has acquired minority ownership in the organization.

Shuman, who is from Manhattan, is the owner of Lateralus Holdings, a venture capitalist firm, and the chairman of Oura and webAI.

Shuman isn’t just investing in the Islanders on the money side of things; he is also a lifelong fan of the team. 

“Hockey has been a constant in my life since childhood, both as a fan and a player,” Shuman said via a press release. “The 1980 [Team USA Olympic] Miracle on Ice combined with the Islanders’ four consecutive Stanley Cup championships [from 1980-83] cemented a lifelong passion. My childhood bedroom was covered in newspaper photos and magazine covers of Mike Bossy, Bryan Trottier, Clark Gillies, Denis Potvin, Billy Smith, John Tonelli and Bobby Nystrom.

Schuman will now join Scott Malkin and John Ledecky, who acquired majority ownership of the organization in 2016, along with John Collins and Oliver Haarmann.

“David is one of the most passionate Islanders fans I know and an extraordinary builder of companies,” Ledecky said. “That mindset will be invaluable as we continue to invest in this organization and in this community.”

While the details of the acquisition aren’t known, Schuman has a passion for the Islanders - and will have every incentive to see the team grow on and off the ice.

“Being part of this organization today is a full-circle moment,” Schuman said. “I’m honored to help support the Islanders’ future and their drive for a fifth Cup.”
