Last night was an abysmal performance from the NY Islanders. Taking on a Seattle Kraken who entered the night with an identical 25 points through 26 games as the Islanders, the Kraken outplayed the Isles in every facet of the game.
There looked to be frustration everywhere you turned at UBS Arena, whether that be from the bench, the modest-sized crowd, or the quick glimpse we had of Lou Lamoriello on the ESPN+ broadcast.
The Islanders sit 27th in the league in win percentage, last place in the Metro Division, and two points behind the NY Rangers for the final Wild Card position with three more games played.
Frustration all around UBS Arena
The boo-birds were out last night at UBS Arena, most vocal in the second period when the Islanders were pinned in their own zone for nearly two minutes, followed by a Bronx cheer once they cleared the zone.
Much of the fans' irritation has been directed at GM Lou Lamoriello. Without much roster turnover since taking over the position, the team has stagnated, and the results are now showing on the ice.
Patrick Roy has always been frank regarding his emotions but has toned them down since his time behind the bench with the Colorado Avalanche. His frustration has boiled over into his media sessions, frustrated with some of the questions directed his way.
“Do I have to answer that? I didn't see the spark that I was hoping to see.” Said Roy after a question regarding the play of Pierre Engvall. LI'll leave it at that...That was a tough question."
It was a rough night for Kyle Palmieri, who has been arguably the Islanders' best player through 27 games. Still wearing an extended visor after receiving stitches a few weeks back, the Islanders winger was minus-2 on the night, taking a puck to the face and needing additional repairs.
Mat Barzal, Anthony Duclair, and Adam Pelech are all back skating and should be back in the lineup soon. But time is running out and they'll have to hope they can turn things around before the gap to the playoffs grows too much.
