Hilary Duff throws some shade at former NY Islanders winger at sold out MSG show

Hilary Duff had Madison Square Garden packed for her sold-out show, but one moment may have caught the attention of longtime New York Islanders fans for an unexpected reason.

During the performance, Duff appeared to make a subtle reference to her former marriage to ex-NHL forward Mike Comrie, adding a little hockey history to an otherwise pop-driven night at MSG.

Duff and Comrie were married from 2010 until their divorce was finalized in 2016 after separating in 2014. Comrie's 10-year NHL career included parts of two seasons with the Islanders, where he became one of the team's more productive forwards during the late 2000s. During that time, it wasn't unusual to find Duff at the Nassau Coliseum to cheer on her then-boyfriend. These were long before the days when stars voluntarily showed up at an Isles games, as they do at UBS Arena.

It was kind of a big deal.

In 2007-08, Comrie played 76 games and led the Islanders with 49 points, including 21 goals. His Islanders tenure ended the following season when New York traded Comrie and defenseman Chris Campoli to the Ottawa Senators for veteran forward Dean McAmmond and a 2009 first-round pick.

That draft pick has its own interesting Islanders connection.

The selection eventually moved to the Anaheim Ducks, who used the No. 26 overall pick in the 2009 NHL Draft on Kyle Palmieri, the Long Island native who would eventually get traded to the Islanders from the New Jersey Devils and then sign two separate extensions.

More than a decade after her relationship with Comrie ended, Duff has long since moved forward. She is now married to songwriter and producer Matthew Koma, with whom she shares three children.

Duff ultimately used the MSG moment to thank the crowd and reflect on being able to continue thriving in her career, which is experiencing a revival.
