Welcome to the first installment of "Isles Remember," which will be a series where we take a look at a piece of Islanders history. For the first, let's dive into the career of Alan Quine, who quickly became a fan favorite from his playoff heroics during the 2016 first-round matchup against the Florida Panthers.
Second time's the charm
Quine was drafted into the NHL not once, but two times. In 2011, he was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings with the 85th overall pick in the 3rd round. But because they didn't sign him to an entry-level contract within the first two years of having his rights, he was able to re-enter the draft pool. It would be with the 166th pick of the 6th round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft where the New York Islanders would select him.
He would then play three full seasons with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers before making his NHL debut in the 2015-16 season. Through those three AHL years, he put up 136 points, 50 of those being goals, in 192 games.
He earned the call-up to the Islanders' main roster with only two games left during that 2015-16 season. He played in both of them, even scoring his first NHL goal in his first NHL game against the Buffalo Sabres. His play in these two games led to Isles head coach at the time, Jack Capuano, inserting him into the lineup for all but one of the 2016 Islanders playoff games.
