Playoff Heroics

The 2016 first-round matchup against the Florida Panthers was one of the most memorable experiences for younger Islanders fans. There were ups, downs, and three overtime winning games for the Isles. In game three, former Isles and now MSG commentator Thomas Hickey fired one past Cats goalie Roberto Luongo to win it in overtime.

But it was in game five, with the series tied 2-2, where the legend of Alan Quine was officially born. With just over five minutes left in double overtime, the Islanders were awarded a power play. Finally, a real opportunity to end the game, send the Isles back to the Barclays Center up 3-2 in the series, and a chance to win their first playoff series in 23 years on home ice.

With four minutes exactly left in the second overtime session, Quine ripped home a one-timer off a feed from Marek Zidlicky to win the game for the Islanders. Absolute bedlam in my living room, as Quine is mobbed by his teammates, my dad and I are jumping around like crazy. This is one of those moments you don't forget. Just like that, with one shot, Alan Quine is a name that is cemented into thousands of Islanders fans' brains for years to come.

During the playoff run, Quine played in 10 games, where he posted one goal and four assists for a respectable five points. This granted him a shot at making the roster for the 2016-17 season. He made the team out of camp and appeared in 61 games, scoring five goals and adding 13 assists for 18 points. The 2017-18 season would be his last with the Islanders, though, as after he only put up three assists in 21 games that season, the Isles wouldn't renew his contract.
