In today's installment of Isles Remember, we will be taking a look back in time at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. More specifically we will be diving into the Islanders players who represented their home countries in the tournament.

The 2013-14 season was an interesting one for the New York Islanders. After making the playoffs for the first time since 2006-07 in the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season, expectations were high for the first time in a while for Isles fans. But the Islanders struggled during the majority of the season to stack up wins, they even lost ten games in a row at one point. The Isles ended up finishing last in the Metropolitan Division with a 34-37-11 record.

On a more positive note, the Isles did have three representatives at the Olympics during that season. Captain John Tavares represented Canada, Michael Grabner played for his native country, Austria, and Thomas Vanek also suited up for Austria. The Isles were going to send one more to Sochi but due to a concussion, Lubomir Visnovsky pulled out of playing for Team Slovakia.

O' Captain!

The Islanders captain and superstar John Tavares, unfortunately had his Olympics cut short due to an injury faced while facing off with Latvia. Tavares, who did win a gold medal with this Canadian squad in 2014, didn't even record a single point through his four games he appeared in. The injury he sustained against Latvia ended up being both an MCL and meniscus tear in his left knee. This injury resulted in him being ruled out for the remainder of the 2013-14 season.
