Matias Maccelli is adjusting to life with a new organization on his first day of NY Islanders training camp

The NY Islanders had a quiet offseason for teh most part, not adding many significant pieces to the roster. The biggest signing of the free-agent period was Matias Maccelli, joining the Islanders from the Toronto Maple Leafs and agreeing to a one-year deal.

Maccelli entered his first day of training camp with his new teammates, adjusting to life with a new organization and unfamiliar teammates.

"There's obviously a lot of talent here, but also a lot of veteran players who are really good," Maccelli said after his first day on the ice with his new team. "I think there's a really good group of guys here and good players. I've only heard good things about the organization here and the fans. So that's probably the main reason why I'm here."

In Toronto last season, Maccelli finished the campaign with 14 goals and 25 assists. While it wasn't a poor season for the 25-year-old Finn, its still a drop off from his years with the Arizona Coyotes, where he finished with 57 points in the 2023-24 season. He'll now look to prove to his new coaches that he can return to the same form he had in Arizona.

"I had a great summer," Maccelli said. "Showed up here in great shape. I didn't have to do anything crazy. Just play my game and do the best I can. That's all I can do."

Among a forward group that is desperate for point production, Maccelli has the opportunity to excel within this lineup and once again become the top-6 forward he was with the Coyotes.
