After playing 13+ seasons with the NY Islanders, Matt Martin left a lasting impact on the organization as a member of the identity line and one of the most respected enforcers in the game. But before that, he left his mark on the Sarnia Sting, racking up points and protecting the team's superstar Steven Stamkos. And last night, Martin was immortalized by the Sting, inducted into the franchise's Hall of Fame.

Martin, his wife, Sydney, and their two daughters were in attendance for the ceremony. Still, one new extended family member was left behind, as Matthew Schaefer is in Columbus preparing for the Islanders' matchup with the Blue Jackets tonight.

As we’ve seen with Paul Bissonnette, Henrik Lundqvist, and Cal Clutterbuck, Schaefer isn’t afraid to throw some playful chirps around, and his pre-game video tribute to Martin last night did just that.

“Hey Marty, I guess you weren’t lying that you were pretty good at hockey back in the day,” Schaefer jabbed at his current housemate. “No, I’m just kidding. I just want to say congrats on everything. You know, it’s been an honor to live with you and your family and the girls. I look up to you a lot and you’ve helped me so much in my first season and with life and everything. So congrats on the great achievement, and I’ll see you back at home beating you in PS (PlayStation).”

Martin, who played three seasons in Sarnia, racking up 109 points, showed his appreciation to the fans and the organization for his development and getting him to the NHL. He also thanked Stamkos for being such an elite player and bringing all the scouts to the arena, who were also able to catch a glimpse of Martin.
