Scott Perunovich
“Scooter” as the team calls him, has seemed to be a steal of a trade for the blue and orange. Perunovich provided depth on both the left and right side of the blue and was a valuable asset with the injuries piled up on the blue line. The Islanders traded a conditional 5th round pick in 2026 (conditions haven’t been released) and I originally thought he would be re-signed but considering how little he has played with the squad and how Patrick Roy has favored Boqvist and Mayfield and even after Mike Reilly was cleared to come back he was put in over Perunovich. I don’t see the Islanders retaining him after this season.
I don’t believe the Islanders will bring back Travis Mitchell and Aidan Fulp; there is no need for them to be brought back on an NHL deal.
Tyce Thompson and Jakub Skarek are no longer RFA’s (now UFA Group-6) and I don’t believe either will be brought back by the squad.
For me, it’s easy to let Matt Martin, Hudson Fasching, Julien Gauthier, Frederik Karlstrom, and Grant Hutton walk as all of those players are replaceable. It gets difficult for some others.
Mike Reilly and Tony DeAngelo
With Reilly missing most of this season, there’s a chance that he could be cheap to bring back, but with the Islanders having multiple defensemen in my predictions above, it doesn’t seem like they need him. DeAngelo has been a solid player for the Islander,s but I doubt that he will be brought back.
