After learning that John Collins will spearhead the search for the new NY Islanders General Manager and President of Hockey Operations role, we now know one name who will get the chance to interview for GM.

Kate Maddigan currently serves as the Assistant General Manager of the NJ Devils under Tom Fitzgerald, and will interview with the Islanders for the vacancy, according to Andrew Gross of Newsday.

Madigan will interview for Isles GM

Madigan joined the Devils organization before the 2017-18 season as an analyst, quickly promoting to roles as Director of Professional Scouting, Director of Hockey Operations, and finally into her current role as Assistant GM.

Madigan, 32, began her working career in accounting, but quickly decided to pursue a career in hockey, something she felt destined to do.

“After I came for development, I did a trial run, and after two weeks I said, ‘I’m in. This is awesome,” Madigan told Sam Kasan of NewJerseyDevils.com. “Watching hockey for a living, it’s great. You feel part of the team. There’s nothing like it.”

Madigan’s roots run deep in hockey, as her father, Jim, currently serves as Northeastern University’s Athletic Director, and worked as an Islanders scout for 13 years from 1993-2006.

When appointed to Asst. GM with the Devils, Madigan became the sixth woman in league history to serve in that role, and if hired by the Islanders as GM, she’d become the first.

Not only would she be a trailblazer as the first female GM, but she’d be the youngest active GM and fourth youngest in league history (John Chayka, Gord Stellick, Kyle Dubas).

There’s no saying whether Madigan becomes the Isles' choice for GM, but she’s the first we know of in what will likely be a long list of interviewees.
